South Korean Hyundai Workers Reject Pay Deal

Hyundai automotive works in South Korea have voted to reject a pay deal agreement that was reached between union heads and Hyundai management.

This proves not only that the independent spirit of the workers in South Korea is alive and well but that the Hyundai management probably has more to do in order to gain the trust of their workers. The workers voted 61% against the deal that was reached on Tuesday.

Under the basic terms of the deal, the company agreed to raise the monthly basic salary by 5.61% and pay a bonus equivalent to three months’ salary, plus a lump-sump payment of three million won (2,659 dollars). Hyundai management also noted that it would, as a part of the deal, get rid of its notorious all-night shift. The idea sounded good on paper, but was ultimately rejected by a worker’s population that clearly wanted more bang for their buck.

Negotiations for a new workers’ contract began in May. Workers have staged partial strikes since July, which the company says have cost about 480 billion won (425 million dollars) in lost production.

Hyundai automotive will need to get its house in order in South Korea in order to maintain production in the region. Sales are good internationally and Hyunda is the proud holder of the sixth largest automaker in the world. It, along with Kia Motors, forms the illustrious Hyundai Automotive Group. With several Hyundai dealer outlets doing well around the world, the HAG will continue to press for a higher position on the world’s largest automotive sales chart.

Pennsylvania’s Honda Love Affair

There’s no question that PA dealers have an awful lot to offer by way of Honda cars. Pennsylvania’s love affair with Honda is unquestionable, as the popular cars continue to rack up solid sales and gobs of popularity from consumers and car dealers alike.

From Allentown to Pittsburgh, Lebanon to Philadelphia, there are scores of Honda dealers just waiting to deal these fine cars away.

One area where Honda continues to do well in is the truck and SUV area, surprisingly. The Honda Ridgeline truck for 2008 is one of their best sellers, with a reasonable price tag and a lot going for it. The Ridgeline is available in five different trims and comes equipped with all the goodies. The trucks are equipped with standard 3.5 litre, V6, 247 horsepower engine that achieves 15 miles per gallon in the city and 20 miles per gallon on the highway.

The Honda CR-V is another popular model. The mid-size SUV from 2008 is a 4 door, 5 passenger vehicle. The CR-V comes with standard 2.4 litre engine capable of making some serious headway. While the CR-V from 2008 is essentially a carryover from 2007’s models, the vehicle is still proving immensely popular amongst new drivers. It gets decent gas mileage, too, which helps in making the same to the environmentalists.

For more information on these and other Honda vehicles, why not pull into your local Honda dealer today and see what’s happening. There are many great PA dealers just waiting to help.

Hyundai Claims to Hold Lead in Efficiency

Hyundai’s research chief is making some rather bold claims about his company. In a statement, the research chief stated that Hyundai can and will meet the proposed United States standard for efficiency of 35 miles per gallon before the scheduled deadline.

2008 Hyundai is claiming that the car company will be able to to have met the efficiency standards by 2015, putting it five years ahead of the deadline.

The kicker here is that Hyundai is claiming to be able to meet the efficiency standards without relying on hybrid vehicles.

When many other car companies have argued with the efficiency standard imposed by the United States, Hyundai has stood up and greeted the challenge with open arms. Some analysts doubt the veracity of Hyundai’s claims, of course, and time will be the only judge when it comes to figuring out if Hyundai can actually pull off its goal. But it sure does make for some interesting reading!

The idea here is for Hyundai to utilize lightweight vehicle construction techniques and new engine and powertrain technologies. Gasoline direct injection, dual continuously variable valve timing, and eight-speed automatic transmissions will also factor in with Hyundai’s plan. These technologies will doubtlessly make a difference in terms of vehicle production, but whether they will assist in aiding Hyundai dealer outlets in moving vehicles remains to be seen.

Hyundai will aim at the target, without question, and it will be fun to watch them succeed or fail miserably.

Learning About Allentown

In order to understand the importance of Allentown auto dealers and their significance on the city, a little background on The Queen City can come in handy.

The town centre of what is today known as Allentown was founded in 1762 by a wealthy shipping merchant named, you guessed it, William Allen. The property was part of a 5,000 acre plot that Allen had purchased from business partner Joseph Turner. Turner had, in turn, bought the property from the son of William Penn, Thomas Penn. Allen’s plan was for the property to become a commercial centre because of its close proximity to Philadelphia.

With the arrival of the Lehigh Canal, the town core of Allentown became an industrial player and became a major centre for heavy industry and manufacturing. The local iron industry brought many jobs to the city. The railroad also employed a good number of people and the town’s breweries were legendary.

Unfortunately, the period of rapid economic growth in the region was brought to a halt by the Long Depression and the Panic of 1873. Fast-forward to today and most of Allentown’s economy is based on the service industry, with many jobs coming from the heavy industrial manufacturing sector. Mack Trucks moved to Allentown in 1905 and continues there to this day, continuing the trend.

So it’s probably no surprise that Allentown auto dealers would go through the ups and downs that any proud town’s dealerships would. From the Honda dealer to the other car dealership outlets, Allentown’s long history maintains a sense of pride amongst the auto sellers and continues through to this day.

Hyundai Aiming At Luxury Car Market

If you start seeing some changes at your local Hyundai Allentown auto dealer, never fear. Hyundai is gearing up to try its hand at the luxury car market. The company admits that the timing may be less than perfect to bring out a vehicle that will challenge the other big guns in the luxury car market, but Hyundai believes in its power as an automobile dealer.

The new Genesis sedan is the vehicle on which Hyundai is resting its hopes. Hyundai hopes that the Genesis will be able to go toe-to-toe with the likes of BMW and Mercedes Benz.

The idea within Hyundai is to target the “non-conformists” amongst the car buyers. The company hopes that those who don’t follow the trends (read: rich and loaded) will head to their Genesis without paying much mind to the rising gas prices. Many analysts are citing this issue as a major risk and challenge that Hyundai doesn’t have the brand power in the luxury market that a BMW dealer or a Mercedes Benz dealer would have.

But it’s full steam ahead for Hyundai and their commercial departments. Look for brand new ads regarding the Hyundai Genesis. Your local Hyundai dealer will doubtlessly transform itself into a hotbed of luxury car activity, so keep your eye on it and watch for some brand new changes.

Pennsylvania’s Honda Homestead?

For many, the word “Allentown” means little more than a Billy Joel song. But for many others, Allentown is a city in Pennsylvania with a history, a story to tell, and a whole lot of love for Honda cars.

Located in Lehigh County in Pennsylvania, Allentown is actually the state’s third most populated city behind Pittsburgh and Philadelphia. Located on the Lehigh River, Allentown is the largest of three adjacent cities that make up a region of eastern Pennsylvania and western New Jersey known as the Lehigh Valley, with the cities of Bethlehem and Easton nearby. Allentown sits about 60 miles north of Philadelphia and 90 miles west of New York City.

With such a snug location, it’s no small wonder that Allentown cars would be big business. After all, it is the location of the corporate headquarters of several major companies, including Mack Trucks. So it should come as no surprise to anyone that Allentown residents love their Honda dealer and their other car dealerships. Allentown residents know how important it is to protect their industries, so Honda vehicles and other car companies provide the residents with a sense of pride.

The largest employer in Allentown is actually the Lehigh Valley Hospital and Health network, with almost 8,000 employees.

With such a broad spectrum of people and industries in Allentown, Honda dealer outlets know that the wonderful city is prime location for starting anew or keeping things fresh. Over the next few entries, we’ll explore Allentown some more and talk a little bit about Honda’s relationship with The Queen City.

Hyundai Automotive has Sales Sights on Luxury Genesis Brand

Luxury brands aren’t selling as well as they used to, but Hyundai Automotive is planning to change that. Officials at the automaker’s headquarters are confident that Hyundai Automotive can sell at least 50,000 units of its luxury nameplate, Genesis. In fact, they are not only confident about its sales goals, on spokesperson went so far as to say the Genesis could “shatter premium automobile paradigms.”

The luxury sports sedan created by Hyundai Automotive went on sale at the end of June. So far, it’s on track to sell at least 1,200 by the end of August. As for the entire year, the vice president of product development for Hyundai Automotive said the company is going to sell 8,000.

The 50,000 target also includes the coupe version of the Genesis. That won’t be released until the beginning of 2009.

Hyundai Automotive has more than $500 million invested in this luxury vehicle which, according to this article, is “the company’s most ambitious vehicle introduction ever in the United States.” The Korean automaker is making great strides in changing North America’s perception towards its vehicles and officials feel there is no better way to do that than to release a state-of-the-art luxury vehicle. Shattering current luxury vehicle sales records wouldn’t be bad, either.

With all of the hype about the Genesis, why not visit your local Hyundai dealer today to see why everybody is so excited about it? You might end up making it 50,001 sales.

All About Hydroplaning

PA auto dealers know know well the dangers of hydroplaning. Hydroplaning is one of the most common causes of accidents, and is something that can lead to accidents, injury, or even death.

To know what hydroplaning is, it’s important first to understand something about how tires are designed to work on roads with water on them.

The dips or grooves in the tire tread are used to help remove water from underneath a tire. This means that a tire can still have a high degree of friction with the surface of the road, even when it’s wet outside. Hydroplaning occurs when a moving tire can’t get rid of all of the water underneath the tire. Water builds up pressure in front of the tire, and it forces water in a wedge shape to be forced under the front end of the wheel. This causes the tire to lift up from the road, creating the hydroplaning phenomenon.

The immediate result of hydroplaning is a loss of control of your vehicle. You can’t control the vehicle while it is hydroplaning, and have to wait until the hydroplaning stops. When a car hydroplanes, it can feel like the steering is loose. Small steering corrections won’t be followed. To get out of the hydroplane, keep your steering wheel straight and apply gentle pressure to the brakes as you gently ease off of the accelerator.

Hydroplaning is more likely the faster you go. In addition, if your tires have worn treads or are underinflated, your risk for hydroplaning is higher, as well.

A new Honda from your local Honda dealer will have nice new tires that are much less prone to hydroplaning than older, more worn tires.

2008 Hyundai Elantra in Its Own Class

Critics are surprised by the 2008 Hyundai Elantra. According to this article, the second year after its complete redesign has really defined and elevated the 2008 Hyundai Elantra above many other vehicles in its class. It’s the “real deal” that can hold its own when compared to the “big boys.” The 2008 Hyundai Elantra still holds the same long warranty and low price that it did before the redesign, too. That makes it even better.

The Elantra is like a cross between a midsize sedan and a compact car. The EPA classifies it as a sedan, but others classify it as a compact car. Either way, it has a great deal of space on the inside (especially for the driver). The backseat also has plenty of legroom and foot room for adults due to its “high-mounted bench.”

The article also states that the 2008 Hyundai Elantra isn’t “overtly sporting,” but it is “actually a capable handler.” It holds through tight turns and has excellent steering response, which is something you don’t typically find in compact cars.

There is so much more to the 2008 Hyundai Elantra, but words can’t duplicate the feeling you get behind the wheel. Visit a local Hyundai dealer today and take one for a test drive. I did and ended up buying one!

Allentown Auto Dealers Warn Against Cell Phone Use While Driving

Your Allentown auto dealers are concerned about everybody’s safety on the roads. Today’s post is about using cell phones while driving. California has already made it illegal to drive while using a handheld cell phone and other states are considering similar legislation. But your Allentown auto dealers want to bring your attention to this article.

The article talks about how drivers can be affected simply by talking on a cell phone even if you are using the speakerphone feature. In fact, listening to someone talk on your cell phone could impair your driving decisions as much as if you were under the influence of alcohol.

Dr. Marcel Just at the Center for Cognitive Brain Imaging at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh conducted a study about this very topic. The findings will be printed in the Brain Research journal shortly. According to the study, listening to someone talk on a cell phone significantly reduces you brain activity while driving. Just and his colleagues conducted the study by asking volunteers to drive on a simulator while their brains were hooked up to MRI scanners to monitor their brain activity. In numeric terms, listening to someone talk on a cell phone reduced brain activity by nearly 40 percent!

Don’t let this happen to you when you get a new car from your local Hyundai dealer. It’s better to pull over and talk on the phone to be safe rather than chit chatting and causing an accident. Take a few minutes out of your day and help everybody stay safe. It’s just a thought from your Allentown auto dealers.
