Your Allentown auto dealers are concerned about everybody’s safety on the roads. Today’s post is about using cell phones while driving. California has already made it illegal to drive while using a handheld cell phone and other states are considering similar legislation. But your Allentown auto dealers want to bring your attention to this article.
The article talks about how drivers can be affected simply by talking on a cell phone even if you are using the speakerphone feature. In fact, listening to someone talk on your cell phone could impair your driving decisions as much as if you were under the influence of alcohol.
Dr. Marcel Just at the Center for Cognitive Brain Imaging at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh conducted a study about this very topic. The findings will be printed in the Brain Research journal shortly. According to the study, listening to someone talk on a cell phone significantly reduces you brain activity while driving. Just and his colleagues conducted the study by asking volunteers to drive on a simulator while their brains were hooked up to MRI scanners to monitor their brain activity. In numeric terms, listening to someone talk on a cell phone reduced brain activity by nearly 40 percent!
Don’t let this happen to you when you get a new car from your local Hyundai dealer. It’s better to pull over and talk on the phone to be safe rather than chit chatting and causing an accident. Take a few minutes out of your day and help everybody stay safe. It’s just a thought from your Allentown auto dealers.
